Men's Basketball Hosts Warren Wilson Thursday in 2013-14 Home Opener

The Youngstown State men's basketball team will host Warren Wilson College of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association in the 2013-14 home opener, Thursday, Nov. 14. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m. EST at the Beeghly Center, and the game can be heard on 570
WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio. This game is part of the Kennesaw State Men's Basketball Tournament.
Last Time Out
• Youngstown State won its third straight game to open the season with a 75-67 win over Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorite Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 10.
• Senior Kendrick Perry turned in a spectacular performance with a season-high 31 points with nine rebounds and seven assists.
• Sophomore Ryan Weber posted 17 points and nine boards. Weber also tied a career high with four 3-pointers.

• Warren Wilson College is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and owns a record of 2-2. The Owls are coming off an 87-67 loss to Milligan and play Kennesaw State on Nov. 11, Florida International on Nov. 12 and Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 13 before facing the Penguins. Ty Johnson leads the Owls with 13 points per game.

• Youngstown State Head Coach Jerry Slocum ranks among the best in the history of college basketball in terms of overall wins.
• Slocum ranks 35th all-time with 676 career victories.

KP Earns Weekly Honors
• Senior Kendrick Perry averaged 22 points, six rebounds and 5.3 assists per game and shot 51.1 percent from the field last week.
• For his efforts, he was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career.
• He was also named the national player of the week by NBCSports.com. He scored a season-high 31 on 11-of-19 shooting from the field against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 10.
Weber Steps Up
• Sophomore Ryan Weber began his second season on a high note.
• The Indianapolis, Ind., native scored a career-high 18 points in the 73-57 win over Kennesaw State on Nov. 8.
• Over the first three games, Weber averaged 15.3 points and five rebounds per game. He also shot 52 percent from behind the 3-point line, making 11-of-21.
• He made a total of eight 3-pointers all of last season.
Perry Now 15th
• With 66 points over the weekend, senior Kendrick Perry now ranks 15th all-time on the YSU scoring list with 1,375 points.
• He needs 25 more to become the 15th player to scored 1,400 points in a career.
• He needs 26 more to move into 14th place on the all-time scoring list.
Keene Makes Impressive Debut
• Freshman Marcus Keene made an impressive debut last weekend. Keene averaged nine points, three rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
• He also converted 55 percent (5-of-9) of his 3-point attempts.
• He scored a career-high 10 points against Kennesaw State on Nov. 8.
Penguins Picked Fifth; Get 1st Place Vote
• Youngstown State was picked to finish fifth in the Horizon League's Preseason Poll of head coaches, SIDs and selected media.
• The Penguins earned 219 points and received a first-place vote for the first time.
Perry Named Preseason POY
• Senior Kendrick Perry was named the Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year after averaging 17.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season.
• Perry is the only returning player in the Horizon League that ranked in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals per game and free-throw percentage.
• Perry tied for the league lead with 1.9 steals per game, ranked second in scoring, fifth with a .845 free-throw percentage, sixth with 4.1 assists per game and 10th with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Belin Named Preseason Second-Team
• Senior Kamren Belin was voted to the Preseason All-Horizon League Second-Team. Last season, Belin averaged 11.1 points per game, but posted a 12.3 points per game scoring average in league play. His .407 3-point percentage ranked fifth in the league.
