
Penguins See First Action At Tom Stubbs Relays

Fremont, Ohio - The swimmers of the Youngstown State swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 season a the Tom Stubbs Relays on Friday night at Fremont High School against Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo and Findlay.
The Penguins best finish was fourth in the 3x100-yard backstroke relay with a time of 3:01.18. The trio who competed in the event were Ashley Dow, Taylor Teske and Chelsea Malone.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Penguins had a time of 1:51.30. YSU swam a time of 3:07.06 in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay. In the 3x100 breaststroke, the Penguins posted a time of 3:44.34.
YSU was sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Therese Stevens, Stefanie van Niekerk, Megan Ciampa and Hanna Martin had a time of 8:08.46. In the 400-yard medley relay, the Penguins had a time of 4:03.49 as Dow, Hannah Reynolds, Laura Paz and Stevens had a solid performance.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, YSU clocked a time of 1:44.54 and in the 3x500 relay, the Guins posted a 16:38.91. In the 4x100 IM relay, YSU clocked a time of 4:23.15 and in the final event, the 400-yard free relay, YSU finished fifth with a time of 3:44.37.
YSU returns to action at home on Friday, Oct. 18 when it plays host to Cleveland State. The meet at the Beeghly Natatorium is set to begin at 5 p.m.
