Ashley Dow, Bec Stafford Earn HL Top Performer Honors

Indianapolis, Ind. - Youngstown State sophomore swimmer Ashley Dow was named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week while freshman diver Bec Stafford was tabbed the Diver of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Dow, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, helped lead Youngstown State to the program's first-ever dual-meet win versus Wright State. Last season's Co-Newcomer of the Year in the Horizon League won the 100-back (:58.51) and 200-back (2:07.39) and finished second in the 200-individual medley (2:13.69). She was the only swimmer at the meet to finish with three top-two individual finishes. Dow was also on the 200-medley relay team that finished second in a time of 1:49.21.
Stafford, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, swept the diving events in Youngstown State's meet against Cleveland State and Wright State. She won the 1-meter event by 12.65 points with a score of 258.85. She won the 3-meter dive by 41.45 points with a score of 286.45. Her three-meter score was a career-high, besting her previous mark by 28 points.
The Penguins return to action on Friday at UIC.
