
YSU Drops Dual Meet to Saint Francis; Hosts Ohio Sunday

Loretto, Pa. -- The Youngstown State Swimming team returned to dual competition following a 10-day training meet to Florida. On Saturday, YSU dropped a 144-110 decision to Staint Francis (Pa.) at the Stokes Natatorium. The Penguins return to action on Sunday against Ohio at the Beeghly Center Natatorium.
The well-rested Red Flash won the first 11 events before YSU won the final three.
Sophomore Laura Paz led the team earning first place in the 200- and 100-yard fly with times of 2:15.57 and 1:02.87, respectively. In her third event, the 200-yard IM, she finished in second with a time of 2:20.78.
Freshman Ashley Dow took first in the 100 back (1:00.25), second in the 100 fly (1:05.41), and third in the 200 back (2:15.05). Junior Sam Roberts captured first place in the 200 IM (2:20.55), second in the 200 yard back, and third place in the 100 back (1:09.80)
Senior Kirsten Walker clocked two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 free and finished the 50 free in 25.53 seconds which gave her third place.
A sophomore trio, Brittany Vigar, Kim Kurtz and Megan Ciampa, all took third in 500 free, 100 butterfly and 200 IM, respectively.
In the 200 freestyle relay, YSU took first and second with times of 1:42.88 and 1:52.30, respectively. The Guins took third and fourth in the 200 medley relay with times of 1:53.21 and 1:59.13.
The Penguins take on the Bobcats on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Beeghly.
