Penguins Continue Strong Performances at HL Championships

Cleveland -- Junior Nishani Cicilson finished 11th in the 50 free and Kirstin Walker was 14th in the 500-yard freestyle on the second day of action at the Horizon League Championships at Busbey Natatorium. Every Penguin who swam on day two set a personal-best time.
YSU ended the day with a school-record performance in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:52.43 besting the previous mark of 3:58.60 set in February 2009. It was the third relay record in three tries so far during the meet for the Guins.
"It was another great day for us as once again nearly all our swims were our best times of the year," Head Coach Matt Anderson said. "We are really looking forward to the next two days since most of our swims are yet to come.
"Tonight our highlight was our relay that broke yet another school record this time smashing the previous record by 6 seconds."
Cicilson had a season-best time of 24 seconds to place 11th while Walker had a time of 5:09.46 after recording a season-best time of 5:05.13 in the preliminaries. Her time in the opening round was the second fastest in the 500 in YSU history.
Also in the 500 freestyle, personal-best times were established by Audria Grubbs who had a time of 5:17.43, freshman Brittany Vigar who clocked a 5:19.11 and freshman Elli Stevens who posted a 5:34.56.
In the 200 IM, freshman Angela Diorio had a time of 2:13.24, freshman Claire Reynolds clocked a 2:14.13 and sophomore Rachel Harbarger finishd with a 2:14.49.
In the 50-yard free, Alana Kane posted a career-best time of 24.77 seconds and freshman Terese Stevens had a time of 26.15 seconds in the prelims.
In the team standings, YSU has 127 points after two rounds and is in sixth place. Green Bay is in first with a total of 321 points.
The Horizon League Championships continue on Friday as YSU diver Casey Hill looks to earn the one-meter crown after winning three-meter event on Wednesday.
