Penguins Win Six Events in Opening Dual vs. Green Bay

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team hosted their first home meet of the 2011-12 campaign on Friday against seven-time defending conference champion Green Bay at Beeghly Center Natatorium. Green Bay won the dual by a score of 185-115.
YSU performed well against the Phoenix as junior Casey Hill won both diving events and the swimmers earned victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 50-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Megan Ciampa and sophomore Brittany Vigar placed first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with times of 10:55.19 and 11:06.24. Ciampa also took third in the 500-yard free clocking 5:18.30.
In the 200-yard fly, sophomore Laura Paz captured first with a time of 2:11.95. Paz also finished second in the 100 butterfly (59.99 seconds).
Freshman Ashley Dow placed first place in her first collegiate dual meet in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.22. In the 200-yard backstroke, she earned second place with a time of 2:10.34.
Senior Nishani Cicilson finished first in the 50 free clocking 24.91 seconds and third in the 100 free with a time of 55.22 seconds. Junior Samantha Roberts earned second in the 200-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Senior Kirstin Walker earned a second-place finish in both the 100 and 200 free with a time of 54.86 seconds and 2:00.31, respectively.
In the 1-meter dive, Hill took first (259.12) while sophomore Tricia Vallinger was second (237.67). Hill also took first place in the 3-meter dive earning the title on her final dive by scoring a total of 223.73.
The YSU divers return to action on Sunday at the Clarion Diving Invitational. In dual action, YSU will travel to Niagara on Friday, Oct. 28.
