Swimming & Diving Concludes Home Slate on Saturday

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team plays host to their final meet of the 2010-11 campaign on Saturday against Akron and Saint Francis (Pa.) at the Beeghly Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin a 1 p.m.
The contest will be Senior Day for the program. YSU has four swimmers and diver Amanda Carpin who will be participating in their final home dual meet. The four swimmers are Caitlin Cook, Alana Kane, Kari Tridle and Ashley Williamson.
Cook is the school-record holder in the 200-yard butterfly while Williamson set school marks in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard fly, 100-yard backstroke and 200 back before injuries slowed her career. Kane ranks in top 10 in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles. Carpin holds the fourth-best three-meter and sixth-best one-meter marks in the diving events.
The Penguins returned to the pool last Friday at Ohio after a layoff. YSU last competed at home on Nov. 12 in a dual meet versus Bowling Green.
Akron will play host to Marshall on Friday night after not competing since hosting the Zippy Invitational in early December. The Red Flash, which are the defending Northeast Conference Champions, last competed as a team on Nov. 19-21 at the Frank Elm Super Splash hosted by Rutgers.
YSU dropped a hard-fought 131-123 dual last year at Saint Francis behind individual event wins by Kirstin Walker, Cook and reigning Horizon League Swimmer of the Week Samantha Roberts. The Guins last competed against Akron in November 2008 dropping a 155-77 contest to the Zips.
Admission to the meet is free and it will also be carried live on the Horizon League Network.
