Volleyball Sweeps Chicago State Behind Kapferer

Ann Arbor, Mich. – Haley Kapferer had a match-high 10 kills, and the Youngstown State volleyball team used 11 blocks to sweep Chicago State (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) on Saturday evening at the Michigan/adidas Invitational.
Kapferer had 10 kills in 18 attempts with one error for a .500 attack percentage, which was also a match-best. Kapferer and Tasha Reid had five blocks apiece as the Penguins held the Cougars to a .018 attack percentage.
Naither team led by more than one in the opening set until Youngstown State went up 10-8. That sparked an 8-0 run on Brittany McNeal's serve that put the Penguins ahead 16-8. YSU led by as many as 10 at 20-10 before Chicago State rallied late to make the score 23-21. Kelsi Bitter and Kapferer connected on kills to give YSU the set. Kapferer had five kills in the opener.
YSU did not trail after goiing up 6-5 in the second set on Reid's kill, and the Guins did not lead by fewer than two after going up 13-10. Chicago State was hitting -.027 through the first two sets.
The Penguins led for most of the third set as well after going up for good after a CSU service error made the score 10-9. Another Guerrieri ace gave the Guins their largest lead at 21-15.
Youngstown State will play Kent State at Beeghly Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. YSU and Kent State have not played in Youngstown since 1995.
