Cicilson broke a nearly 26-year-old score record placing fifth
in the 50-yard freestyle to lead the Penguins during the second day
of competition at the 2010 Horizon League Championships at the
Flames Natatorium in Chicago. Later in the evening, freshman Casey
Hill finished fourth in the one-meter diving competition.
Cicilson swam identical times of 23.8 seconds
in the preliminary round and the finals on Thursday. The previous
record of 23.94 seconds on March 10, 1984 by YSU Hall of Fame
inductee Janet Kemper. It was the first time in year two-year
career in which Cicilson broke a school mark.
Hill finished fourth among 16 competitors in
the one-meter finishing with a score of 263.65. Green Bay's Lauren
McGrew won the event with a score of 283.80. She was the highest
placer among the five freshmen at the meet.
In the 200 IM, freshman Rachel
Tano was the Guins' top placer finishing in 15th place. Tano
had a time of 2:11.95 in the event. The time was a career-best mark
for Tano and her time ranks as the third-fastest in school
history.
YSU wrapped up the evening with a sixth-place
time in the 400 medley relay. The grouping of Cicilson, Sam
Roberts, Caitlin
Cook and Kirstin Walker had a time of 3:59.62 which ranks
second in school history.
Following two days of competition YSU has
scored 113.5 points and sits in sixth place. Green Bay has grabbed
the overall lead with a 316 while Milwaukee is second (290) and
Wright State (261.5) is third.
Action resumes at the league meet on Friday
morning at 11:30 with the prelims for the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200
Free, 100 Breast and 100 Back.
