Youngstown -- The Youngstown
State women's basketball team concludes its longest home
stand of the season when it hosts in-state rival Cleveland State on
Saturday. Tipoff against the Vikings is set for 2:05 p.m., and the
game will be carried live on NewsRadio 570 WKBN and
HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv.
In addition to the basketball action, fans
can enjoy $1 general admission tickets, a pregame Martin Luther
King Jr. Day celebration and a special women's basketball alumni
recognition at halftime.
The Penguins have played the Vikings more
than any other opponent in school history. The Guins have a 30-18
record in the all-time series but have lost three straight.
The Penguins played well in their two
previous games against Milwaukee and Green Bay but came away
without a win. YSU shot 43.6 percent and stayed within striking
distance of the Panthers until the final 3 1/2 minutes before
falling 72-60 on Jan. 8. The Penguins then gave the Phoenix all it
could handle for 26 minutes last Saturday before a cold spell
turned a 36-35 deficit into a 62-42 defeat.
Senior Nikita LaFleur posted
double-doubles against both squads and scored a career-high 25
points and grabbed 14 rebounds against Green Bay. She had the best
shooting day in YSU history, making all 10 of her field goal
attempts.
YSU has had a very welcomed week off
between Green Bay and Cleveland State. Last Saturday's game
against the Phoenix was YSU's fourth game in eight
days.
Scouting Cleveland State
Cleveland State is 8-8 overall and 2-2 in
Horizon League play after defeating Milwaukee 54-49 on Saturday.
The Vikings also defeated Valparaiso 68-55 on Jan. 5. CSU held its
fourth opponent in the last five games under 55 points in the win
over UWM. Junior guard Kailey Klein leads the Vikings and ranks
second in the Horizon League in scoring with 17.4 points per game.
She scored 24 points at YSU last season as the Vikings won 82-66.
