Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's
basketball team (7-19, 5-10 Horizon League) closes out the regular
season with tournament seedings on the line when it visits Wright
State (9-17, 7-8), Saturday, March 1. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.
The Penguins, who are tied for sixth place with Cleveland State
and Loyola in the Horizon League standings, are trying to snap a
four-game losing streak and secure the sixth seed in the upcoming
Horizon League Tournament.
Although tied with the Vikings and Ramblers with 5-10 league
marks and each team owning 2-2 records against each other, the
Penguins win the tie-breaker by virtue of its win over UIC on Jan.
6.
With a win and/or losses by Cleveland State and Loyola, the
Penguins would seal the No. 6 seed in the tournament. If the
Penguins lose and either Cleveland State or Loyola wins, the
Penguins would finish seventh. The Penguins could fall to eighth
with a loss and wins by both Cleveland State and Loyola on
Saturday.
Wright State earned the fifth seed in the tourney after
defeating Cleveland State, 63-55 on Thursday evening at the Nutter
Center.

Youngstown State women's basketball team in recent years. The

have not been victorious since defeating Valparaiso, 73-57, in the
Mid-Con Tournament Championship game on March 7, 2000.

approaching the YSU single-season 3-point top 10 list. Karner, who
has 50 treys this season, needs three more to move into 10th place
on the single-season chart.
Vaughn League Leader
After connecting on just 8.3 percent of her 3-point attempts as a
freshman, sophomore Velissa Vaughn has improved tremendously her
3-point shooting accuracy. The Clairton, Pa., native is shooting
40.5 percent from behind the arc this season but owns a league-best
52.6 3-point percentage against Horizon League foes.
