Women's Basketball

Penguins Host No. 24/25 UW-Green Bay at the Beeghly Center

For the first time since 1993, the Youngstown State women's basketball team (7-15, 5-6 Horizon League) hosts a nationally-ranked team when it entertains No. 24/25 UW-Green Bay (19-3, 10-0 Horizon League), Thursday, Feb. 15.

Tipoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The last nationally-ranked team to play in the Beeghly Center was No. 1 Tennessee on Feb. 9, 1993.

The Penguins have won their last two Horizon League games and three of the last four league contests while the Phoenix are on a16-game winning streak.

Youngstown State is coming off an 58-52 win over Horizon Leage foe Detroit last Thursday - the Penguins' second road league win of the year.

Three Penguins scored in double figures led by sophomore Monique Godfrey's 16 points.

Junior Jessica Schloemp just missed a double-double with 15 points and eight rebounds and classmate Heather Karner added 11 points off the bench.

Scouting the Phoenix
No. 24/25 UW-Green Bay is currently on a 16-game winning streak and has not lost since a 71-70 setback to DePaul on Nov. 29, 2006. The Phoenix, who stand atop the Horizon League standings with a 10-0 league record, have two players averaging in double figures led by reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Nicole Soulis with 17.5 points per game. Senior Natalie Berglin averages 11.3 points per game and leads the Horizon League with 4.8 assists per contest.

The UWGB Series
This will be the 17th meeting between Youngstown State and UW-Green Bay. The Phoenix own a 15-1 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last four meetings, including an 83-49 victory earlier this season. Youngstown State has never defeated the Phoenix in the Beeghly Center.

First Nationally-Ranked Foe Since '93
UW-Green Bay's No.24/25 ranking marks the first time a nationally-ranked team has played in the Beeghly Center since top-ranked Tennessee defeated the Penguins in Beeghly Center, 78-54, on Feb. 9, 1993.

Upset Special
The last time these squad met when UWGB was nationally ranked, Youngstown State pulled off a 60-56 upset at the Phoenix Sports Center on Feb. 19, 2005.

Mo On the Money
Over the last nine games, sophomore Monique Godfrey has been hard to stop. The 5-foot-8 guard is averaging 13.2 points per game and has posted double digit scoring marks in six of the last nine contests, including a career-high 20 points against Loyola on Feb. 3

Droppin' Dimes
Youngstown State points guard Lauren Branson has been quite generous as of late. Over the last nine games, Branson has dished out 43 assists for an average of 4.8 assists per game. Over the same period, Branson has committed just 20 turnovers.

Penguin Benchmarks
Over the last two contests, junior Heather Karner has given the Penguins some scoring punch off the bench. The St. Louis, Mo., native averaged 13.5 points per game last week and shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from behind the 3-point arc. Karner poured in 16 points against Oakland on Feb. 6 and added 11 in a 58-52 win over Detroit on Feb. 8.

Penguins Hold Foe Under 40
Giving up just 39 points to Detroit on Jan. 13, the Penguins held an opponent to under 40 points in a game for the first time since holding Malone to 25 points on Dec. 29, 1990. Detroit's eight points in the first half was also a new low for points allowed in a half.

Hill Completes Circuit
After defeating UIC, Youngstown State Head Coach Tisha Hill has defeated every school in the Horizon League at least once since becoming head coach prior to the 2003-04 season.

Assist Me Please
Junior Lauren Branson continues her ascent up the YSU all-time assists chart. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native currently has 290 career assists and needs 21 more to move into 10th place on the career chart.

Pendleton Ties Scoring High
Sophomore Ashley Pendleton turned in one of her top career performances against the Ramblers on Feb. 3. Pendleton tied a career high with 10 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.

Schloemp Streak at 66
With an appearance against Detroit on Feb. 8, junior Jessica Schloemp extended her games played streak to 66 straight. Schloemp's consecutive games started streak ended at 34 after she did not start against Indiana State on Dec. 6.

The Penguins play their final home game of the seasonwhen they host UW-Milwaukee, Saturday, Feb. 17. Tipoff is slated for 2:05 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.

Last Time Out
The Penguins picked up their second straight Horizon League win with a 58-52 win over Detroit on Feb. 8. Sophomore Monique Godfrey led three Penguins with 16 points while juniors Jessica Schloemp and Heather Karner added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
