Chicago, Ill. -- The Youngstown State women's
basketball team tries to snap a three-game Horizon League losing
streak when it visits UIC, Saturday, Jan. 6.
Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. (EDT) at the UIC Pavilion in
Chicago, Ill.
The Penguins are coming off a disappointing 67-55 loss at Loyola
on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Ashley Pendleton scored a career-high 10 points on
5-of-9 shooting with six rebounds. Freshman Anjalia Lyons also
posted 10 points and five boards.
Sophomore Nikita LaFleur just missed a double-double with nine
points and eight boards against the Ramblers.
Scouting the Flames
UIC enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 7-8 and a
Horizon League mark of 1-2. The Flames are coming off a 72-46 win
over Cleveland State on Thursday evening. LaShonda Grant led the
Flames past the Vikings with 26 points while Krystal Hugelier added
10 points. Grant leads the Flames with 14.1 points per game while
Jacquay Holmes and Hugelier are in double figures as well with 12.1
and 11.8 points per game, respectively.
The UIC Series
This will be the 15th meeting between Youngstown State and UIC with
the Flames owning a 9-5 advantage in the all-time series. UIC has
won the last eight games and YSU has not defeated the Flames since
Jan. 28, 2002.
Penguin Block Party
Youngstown State is currently second in the Horizon League in
blocked shots per game with 3.50. Sophomore Nikita LaFleur is sixth
in the league with 0.92, sophomore Ashley Pendleton is eighth with
0.82 blocks per game and junior Jessica Schloemp and freshman
Anjalia Lyons are tied for 12th with 0.50 blocks per game.
Assist Me Please
Junior Lauren Branson continues her climb up the YSU all-time
assists chart. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native currently has 247
career assists and needs 64 more to move into 10th place on the
career chart. Branson also ranks fifth in the Horizon League with
3.25 assists per game.
Schloemp Streak at 57
With an appearance against Loyola on Thursday afternoon, junior
Jessica Schloemp extended her games played streak to 56 straight.
Schloemp's consecutive games started streak ended at 34 after she
did not start against Indiana State on Dec. 6.
Take Care of the Rock
Although the Penguins average 21.8 turnovers per game, junior guard
Lauren Branson has been doing her job at the point guard position.
Branson has ranks fourth in the Horizon League with a 1.30
assist-to-turnover ratio.
