Becky Rudzik's success played a key role in the growth of the Youngstown State women's track and field/cross country programs.
She ran cross country from 1989-92 and was a member of the track and field teams in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993 for the Penguins.
As a senior in 1992, Rudzik finished 10th at the Mid-Continent Conference Cross Country Championships. It was the first Mid-Con Cross Country meet in league history. Rudzik finished with a time of 19:10 and was named second-team all-conference. That fall she placed ninth at the All-Ohio Championships with a season-best time of 18:31.
As a member of the Cross Country squad, her time of 18:10 at the 1991 All-Ohio Championships set a school record in the 5K. That mark stood until 1996.
In indoor track and field she established marks in the 800 meters (2:12.9), 3,000-meter run (10:08.5) and the 5,000-meter run (17:37.6). In outdoor track and field, she established school marks in the 800-meter run of 2:14.98, in the 1,500 meters of 4:40.9 and in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:42.82. She was also a member of the school record 4x800 relay teams in both indoor and outdoor track.
On the indoor circuit, she still holds the school mark in the 800 meters while her 3,000-meter time that she set in 1991, was a school standard until 2010.
She earned her degree in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State.
Rudzik is an Engineer and Electrical Group Manager for Robeck Fluid Power. She continues to run today, participating in such local events at the Peace Race and the annual Panerathon.
She was a standout at Poland High School prior to joining the Penguins. She qualified for the state cross country meet and track and field meet during her senior year. She was inducted into the Poland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
Becky, and her husband, Mark Rogenski, have three children - Libby, Ellie and Marik.
