Robb Schmidt serves as an Associate Athletics Director at Youngstown State University in the area of Corporate Sponsorships & Athletic Marketing.
At YSU, Schmidt helps generate income through marketing, sponsorship, ticket sales and promotions. He also helps create and develop strategies for all athletic department broadcasts, including the Penguin Sports Radio Network, radio and television coaches' shows, and special radio/TV programming. Schmidt also oversees the department’s licensing of University trademarks.
A native of Warren, Schmidt came to YSU with an extensive background in radio and television along with advertising and marketing. He joined the department as an Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions in 2007, and he began his new role in 2023.
Schmidt is one of the most well-known voices in the area as the radio play-by-play announcer for the men's basketball program since 2002. He also emcees many department functions and banquets.
Before coming to YSU, he spent nearly 15 years as a television broadcaster at WKBN / WYFX in Youngstown. Schmidt served as the weekend sports anchor/reporter for six years before taking over as the station's Sports Director in 1998. He held that position until he became a news anchor in 2005.
Schmidt began his broadcast career as an account executive/sports director at WRRO Radio in Warren, Ohio from 1986 through 1995.
He earned his degree in telecommunications from Kent State University in 1986.
