Former Youngstown State student-athlete Maddi Shoults will be in her first season as a graduate assistant on the YSU women's golf coaching staff in 2026-27.
Shoults, a native of Circleville, Ohio, competed in 22 tournaments for the Penguins over the past two seasons while twice earning All-Horizon League honors. She participated in all 12 tournaments with a 75.6 strokes per round average and a low round of 68 while earning First-Team All-Horizon League recognition as a senior in 2025-26. Shoults recorded one individual tournament win, five top five finishes and 10 top 25 performances during her final collegiate season.
Shoults was also selected to the 2026 Horizon League All-Academic Team and the 2026 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team for her combined performance on the course and in the classroom. She was named a WGCA All-American Scholar for the second straight season following the 2025-26 campaign.
Shoults participated in 10 tournaments with a 77.2 strokes per round average and a low round of 68 while collecting Second-Team All-Horizon League honors as a junior in 2024-25. She earned one tournament win, three top 10 finishes and six top 25 performances in her debut season as a Penguin.
Shoults transferred to YSU before the 2024-25 season after being a two-time NAIA All-American at Ottawa University Arizona. She garnered NAIA Second-Team All-America honors as one of the best freshmen in the nation in 2022-23. She was named GSAC Co-Freshman of the Year and earned all-conference honors after finishing in the top 20 in each event including the NAIA Championship where she tied for 19th.
Shoults recorded two wins in her debut collegiate season and became just the third Spirit golfer to claim two individual tournament titles in a campaign. She also set a new OUAZ single season record with a 75.2 strokes per round average in 2022-23. Shoults won a pair of tournaments and earned NAIA Second-Team All-America honors for the second straight season as a sophomore in 2023-24.
Shoults was a four-time first-team all-district pick and four-time sectional medalist at Westfall High School during her prep career. She earned second-team all-state honors while claiming medalist honors at districts as both a sophomore and junior. Shoults was selected as the Ohio Division II Southeast District Player of the Year each of the final two years of her high school career.
Shoults graduated from Youngstown State with a bachelor's degree in psychology in May 2026.
