John Vogel has been with the Youngstown State sports information department since 2002 and on a full-time basis since 2008.
Vogel has handled media relations duties for the Youngstown State women's basketball and volleyball teams since the 2008-09 academic year, and he has been with the bowling program since its inception in 2016-17. He has also been part of six redesigns of YSUsports.com and has helped the department's social media channels gain the biggest following in the Horizon League.
While working with the baseball program from 2003-17, he served as the media relations coordinator for the 2004, 2008 and 2013 Horizon League Baseball Championships and managed all media relations for the 2004 and 2014 squads that advanced to the NCAA Regionals. Vogel also publicized eight Horizon League titles captured by YSU's successful track and field program and the women's basketball team's trips to the WNIT in 2013, 2015 and 2019. On the individual level, Vogel has helped publicize the accomplishments of Academic All-Americans, Major League Baseball Draft selections and numerous all-conference honorees.
Prior to joining the staff on a full-time basis, Vogel spent two years as a graduate assistant and four years as an undergraduate assistant in the YSU sports information office. During that time, Vogel covered the cross country, track and field, swimming and diving and baseball teams.
Vogel was a recipient of the 2005-06 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Undergraduate Scholarship.
An active member of CoSIDA, Vogel graduated summa cum laude from YSU in 2006 with a degree in journalism. He earned his master's degree in sports administration from Kent State in 2007.
Vogel and his wife, Ashley, reside in Boardman with their son, Jax, daughter, Palmer, and dog, Tiki.
