Anthony Romo began his role as a Graduate Assistant for Athletics Communications in August 2024. His duties include being the primary communications contact for the Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country teams, Women’s Lacrosse team, and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving programs. He also controls play-by-play broadcasting duties for home Youngstown State softball, volleyball, and women's basketball games on ESPN+, and he also provides insight as the Sideline Reporter for home Youngstown State football radio broadcasts on 570 WKBN.
Romo was a mainstay on ESPN+ broadcasts for Youngstown State teams during his time as an undergraduate student. He held play-by-play duties for Youngstown State’s softball and lacrosse programs for four years (2021-2024), as well as the volleyball and women’s basketball programs for two years (2022-2024) where he called more than 130 games in total. He also handled radio-style play-by-play duties for select Youngstown State baseball home and away games for YSNLive.com in 2022 and 2023. Romo was also the play-by-play broadcaster for four Horizon League Track and Field Championships hosted by Youngstown State on ESPN+.
Romo started his time with the Athletics Communications Department as a freshman in 2020, where he worked alongside the full-time staff and learned various elements of a collegiate gameday experience. He was a camera operator for home Youngstown State football games on ESPN+ for four years, while also stepping in to operate camera for numerous other sports when needed. He also helped create social media content for the department by putting together both promotional and highlight videos showcasing Youngstown State and its athletic teams.
Romo is a native of Hubbard, Ohio, who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Youngstown State in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in telecommunications-sports broadcasting track, and a minor in communications. He is currently taking classes to earn a master’s in professional communication. He is a two-time recipient of the Daniel J. Ghilani Scholarship Endowment in 2022 and 2023.
