Alvy Armstrong serves as the head equipment manager for the Youngstown State Athletic Department. Armstrong oversees the the equipment distribution and conditioning for all 19 YSU sports and works primarily with the football program.
Armstrong spent three years at Northern Illinois as a Football Equipment Specialist before joining the YSU staff in the summer of 2011. At NIU, he was responsible for the football program's apparel and safety needs. He ordered and maintained, handle the proper fittings for the team and coordinated transportation of equipment. While with the program he had a strong relationship with adidas and worked to upgrade the appearance of the football student-athletes as well as the equipment. NIU football was selected as part of a testing program for adidas shoes.
Prior to his stint with the Huskies, Armstrong was at Southern Illinois seven seasons, spending six with current Minnesota Head Football Coach Jerry Kill. Armstrong served as the department's Coordinator of Equipment and Facilities. SIU made seven trips to the FCS playoffs and appeared in six NCAA men's basketball tournaments, including two Sweet 16's, during his time with the program. At SIU, Armstong established a strong relationship with Under Armour, which became the primary apparel supplier for the football and softball teams.
He served as an assistant equipment manager at YSU prior to moving into his role at SIU in 2002. Armstrong joined the program as assistant equipment manager in 1996. He worked alongside long-time head equipment manager Carmine Cassese during his tenure. Armstrong worked with all 18 programs in ordering and maintaining while handling proper sizing for all.
A native of Hubbard, Ohio, he graduated from Youngstown State with a degree in Exercise Science in 1996. He worked in the equipment room as a undergraduate student assistant.
Armstrong has been certified by the American Equipment Managers' Association since 2001.
