Abby Doss joined the Youngstown State swimming and diving staff in July 2025. 

Since joining Brad Smith's coaching staff, Doss has made a huge contribution in the all-around improvement of the men's and women's programs. YSU has set numerous school and pool records since her addition to the staff.

In 2025-26, the men's program finished third overall, their highest finish ever, while amassing 494 total points, which is a new program record at the league championships. The women were led by Olivia Sweetman who was named the Swimmer of the Meet. Sweetman became the first Penguins swimmer, male or female, to win three event titles at the same Horizon League meet (500 free, 1,000 free and 1,650 free). Quinn Cynor won took home the title in the men's 500 free title.

Doss was an assistant at Randolph-Macon College during the 2024-25 season before coming to YSU.

A native of Shamokin, Pa., she competed collegiately at NC State and Bucknell from 2020-24.

At Bucknell, she was a two-time All-Patriot League honoree earning first-team honors in 2022 and second team accolades in 2023. Doss was a three-time Patriot League individual medalist, earning silver in the 400 IM (2022), bronze in the 400 IM (2023) and bronze in the 200 breaststroke (2022). She graduated with the school record in the 200 breaststroke.

At Shamokin Area High School, she won seven PIAA state titles, including four in the 500 freestyle and three in the 200 IM. She was a four-time District 4 champion in both the 500 freestyle and the 200 IM.
