Bob Hendricks | 2025 Penguin Of The Year

Bob HendricksBob Hendricks is the founder of Niles Mfg. & Finishing, Inc., where his leadership and vision have been the driving force behind the company's growth and success for over 40 years. Under his guidance, NMF has evolved into a third-generation leader in quality coatings, specializing in e-coating and powder coating, with value-added services serving both the local community and beyond. At 83, Bob still works every day with his loyal dog, Chief, by his side. Chief, however, knows when it’s time to call it a day, usually by 11 a.m.

Born and raised in the small town of Greenford, Ohio, Bob graduated in 1960 with just 32 classmates. His mother, recognizing his potential early on, encouraged him to pursue higher education, and Bob followed that advice, attending Youngstown State University (YSU), where he graduated in 1964. Motivated by a thirst for knowledge, Bob later earned a Master’s degree from New York University (NYU). From his parents, Bob learned the importance of hard work, education, and perseverance.

Bob’s devotion to his family is at the heart of his life. He has three children, Sharon, Bob Jr., and Richard, each of whom shares his remarkable work ethic. He is also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Rumi, Luci, Annie, Elle, Andrew, and Rylee, along with two great-grandchildren. In 2012, Bob married Michelle, expanding his family to include her two children, Christopher and Jennifer, and five step-grandchildren.

A longtime resident of Leetonia, Ohio, Bob’s generosity extends well beyond his family. He has been a key supporter of the Hendricks Family Stadium, a testament to his community involvement and dedication to local causes.

Bob is also an active supporter of Youngstown State University, where he serves as a YSU Penguin Club Trustee, a YSU Scholarship Loge Holder, and a Hendricks Family basketball seating donor. You can often find him at YSU events, passionately cheering for his teams. When he’s not at a game, Bob enjoys operating heavy machinery, attending his poker club, visiting Mountaineer Casino with friends, or working on home improvement projects. At home, he enjoys the quiet challenge of puzzles and is quietly generous in ways that often go unnoticed—whether through charitable donations, providing Thanksgiving meals, funding scholarships, or lending a helping hand to those in need.

Bob’s passion and dedication to YSU and our community is unwavering. His commitment to our Valley is beyond measure and is genuinely appreciated by all whose lives he has touched.
