Sandy Steiber | 1991-92 Female Athlete of the Year

For Sandy Steiber, her play on the volleyball team has only been overshadowed by her work in the classroom where her 3.51 cumulative grade-point average in Mall Management, which includes seven quarters on the Dean’s List, a perfect 4.00 quarter, and three out of four years on the athletic honor roll.

The captain of the Penguin volleyball squad as both a junior and senior, Steiber was the kills leader as both a junior and senior (posting 230 and 283 respectively) as well as the digs leader (posting 299 and 350 the past two seasons).

As a four-year letterwinner, she is the team’s all-time kills (783) and digs (947) leader.

The ‘Most Valuable Player’ in 1991, Steiber helped the Penguins to a 16-15 overall mark last season. She was named to the Bucknell University and Gannon University All–Tournament teams last season (she was also named to the St. Francis University All Tournament team in 1990).

Her tremendous leaping ability and determination to be the best that she can be both on and of the court earned her a place on the 1991 USVBA (United States Volleyball Association) All- Region First-Team as well.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Steiber, Monroeville, Ohio.
