Nina Grambling
Track and Field
2015-16
Senior Nina Grambling has won an impressive 14 Horizon League Track and Field Championships during her YSU track and field career. Grambling is the 2015-16 YSU/The Vindicator Athlete of the Year.
Grambling, who will look to add to her award total at the outdoor league championships on May 5-7, has already won 11 individual titles and three more in relays. She also has five second-place finishes in her career. The Penguins won the 2015 Indoor and Outdoor and 2014 Indoor and Outdoor Horizon League Championships.
Entering the outdoor meet she has won three straight 100m dash titles and two consecutive 200m dashes and long jumps. She is the only runner in league history to win the 100m three consecutive years and has a chance for four straight next week. Of her 14 titles, nine have come at the outdoor event. That total is a Horizon League record.
She is the first indoor HL runner to win the 60m and 200m together in two straight meets since Milwaukee’s Timeka Walker in 2006-07.
In February, she won the 60m dash with a time of 7.55 seconds and the 200m dash 24.48 seconds at the conference meet. She ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay winning squad and also placed seventh in the long jump. She received the meet’s Top Scorer Award for her all-around performance.
In 2015, Grambling was dominant the entire year.
At the indoor meet she won the 60m (7.46 seconds) and 200m dash (24.50) while placing second in the long jump (5.59m). To conclude the meet she helped the 4x400m relay squad finish second. Each point counted as the Guins won the team title by a single point. She was named the Indoor Athlete of the Year and was selected as the Outstanding Running Performer at the conference meet.
At the outdoor meet she was named the Outstanding Running Performer of the Meet and was the Women’s Point Total Champion. She took first in the 100m (11.95), 200m (24.16), long jump (5.61m) and anchored the 4x100m relay squad. The Penguins won the team title by eight points over Milwaukee.
Grambling had her breakout performance at the 2014 Outdoor league meet. She won the 100m (11.91 seconds), the 200m (24.44 seconds) and the long jump (5.54m) while earning the Individual Scoring Award. Earlier in the year at the indoor conference meet she was second in the 60m dash and the 200m dash.
In 2013, she won her first individual event at the outdoor meet taking first in the 100m dash (11.97 seconds). In the 200m dash she placed second and then ran the anchor leg on the 4x100m relay. She was named the HL’s Running Newcomer of the Year. Her first indoor meet appearance was highlighted by a third place finish in the 200m dash.
A native of Canton, Ohio, she is the recipient of the 2015-16 Women’s Athletic Alumni Scholarship. Grambling earned her degree from YSU this past summer in communication studies and is pursuing her master’s in Interdisciplinary Communications.
