An aggressive rebounder and prolific scorer, Dorothy Bowers (Collins) had a great basketball career for the Penguins from 1984 to 1988.
Bowers is currently, the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder with 2,324 points and 1,083 rebounds.
Named team captain during the 1986-87 and 1987Â-88 seasons, Bowers was named the Ohio Valley ConÂference Player of the Year in 1987-88. During her playÂing career, she was a two-time Ohio Valley ConferÂence selection. She earned second-team accolades in 1986-87 and was named to the OVC's All-Freshman squad during the 1984-85 season.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Bowers still holds the school record for points in a game, scoring 49 points against Kent State on November 30, 1985.
As a senior, she poured in 46 points against Kent State m 1988, and also scored 43 points in a game against Austin Peay in 1987.
In 1987-88, Bowers broke the school record for points in a season with 783. In that same year she recorded the school's third-highest single-season reÂbound total with 325. As a senior, she was honored as the Vindicator Female Athlete of the Year.
Overall, she still holds nine school records.
A graduate of East High School, Bowers led the City Conference in scoring and rebounding, and was named third-team All-State in 1984.
Bowers and her husband, David, live in Youngstown with their five-year old daughter, Doriyon.
