Ciara Jarrett | 2013-14 Female Athlete of the Year

Senior Ciara Jarrett became the first YSU indoor track and field athlete to win four consecutive titles in the same event as she won all four Horizon League indoor crowns in the 200-meter dash during her impressive running and jumping career. The YSU/Vindicator Female Athlete of the Year, she is a 10-time individual conference champion in her career from 2011-2014.

Jarrett won the 200-meter indoor title in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, took home the outdoor 200m crowns in 2011, 2012 and 2013, won the 100-meter dash outdoor title in 2011 and 2012 and won her first-ever long jump crown at the 2013 HL Indoor Championships She is the conference record holder in both the outdoor and indoor 200-meter events.

At the indoor Horizon League Championships this year, she won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.61 seconds, winning by .16 seconds. In the long jump she had a leap of 5.78 meters to claim the crown. She was also was third in the 60-meter dash by .01 seconds at 7.64 The women's team ran away with the Horizon League title as Jarrett contributed 26 points as an individual and was part of the 4x400 relay group that was second.

As a junior, Jarrett won the Horizon League outdoor title in the 200-meter dash in a meet-record time of 23.83 seconds. She came in second in the 100m dash with a time of 12.00 seconds and placed third in the long jump (5.72 meters). She competed in the 200m at the NCAA prelims, advancing past the first round with a time of 24.10 seconds. In the next round she was 21st with a time of 23.94 seconds. At the indoor conference meet, she was honored as the Outstanding Female Runner. She won the 200m in a time of 24.55 seconds, was second in the 60m dash at 7.67 seconds and placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.54 meters. She set the meet record of 24.48 seconds in the 200m during the preliminaries.

As a sophomore, she was named the Runner of the Meet helping the Penguins claim the Outdoor league championship. She won the 100m dash in a time of 11.83 seconds and the 200m dash clocking in at 24.19 seconds during the event. At the Indoor league meet, she was the Horizon League Champion in the 200m title with a run of 24.68 seconds. She placed second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.69 seconds.

As a freshman, she captured titles in both the 100m (11.80 seconds) and the 200m (23.92 seconds) at the Outdoor Horizon League Championships. At the indoor meet, she won the 200m in a time of 24.75 seconds and placed third in the 60m with a time of 7.86 seconds.

Jarrett is the school-record holder 200m dash (24.48 seconds in 2013), ranks second in the 60-meter dash (7.57 seconds in 2014) and sits fourth in the long jump at 5.78 meters (2014) in indoor meets. In outdoor competition, she ranks second in the 200m (23.78 in 2013) and the 100m (11.68 in 2011) while siting in fourth place in the long jump at 5.72 meters (2013).

A graduate of Milwaukee Marshall High School, the Milwaukee native is a general studies major with focus areas of social work and sociology. She is the daughter of Gail and Tony Jarrett.
