The only YSU volleyball player to be a three-time first-team all-league selection, and one of two to earn all-conference honors four times, Amy Hermann had an impressive career for the Guins.
Hermann started as a middle hitter before moving to the outside her final three seasons.
She is still one of only four players in school history with 1,000-career kills and 1,000-career digs. In her career, she had 1,371 kills and 1,180 digs.
In school history she ranks first in total attempts (3,437), second in kills (1,371) and kills per game (3.22). She is in the top 10 in the following categories: fourth in games played (462), sixth in digs, seventh in block assists (219), seventh in hitting percentage (.236), seventh in total blocks (274), ninth in digs per game (2.77), and 10th in service aces (118).
As a senior, she had a school-record 513 kills on a school-best 1,307 total attempts and set a school standard with 4.62 kills per game. She finished with 391 digs (3.52 per game), 44 service aces and 16 assists earning first-team Mid-Con honors.
She had a season-high 30 kills (twice) and posted two 20-20’s with 27 kills and 21 digs vs. IUPUI and 24 kills and 25 digs vs. Eastern Michigan. She had double-figures in kills 26 times and double-digits in digs 19 times. YSU won 20 matches and reached the Mid-Continent Tournament championship match.
As a junior, she was named first-team Mid-Con Eastern Division. For the year, she had 405 kills on 1,022 total attempts for a .236 hitting percentage. She finished the year with 327 digs (3.34 per game), 33 aces and 10 assists. She posted a season-high 23 kills against Wright State. Hermann had double figures in kills 22 times and double-digits in digs on 18 occasions.
Hermann redshirted in 1996.
She finished her sophomore year with 251 kills on 578 attempts for a .266 hitting percentage. She had 304 digs, 25 aces and seven assists, averaging 2.98 digs and 2.46 kills.
As a freshman, Hermann burst on the scene as a first-team All-Mid-Con selection. She had 202 kills in 530 attempts for a .234 hitting percentage. She finished with 158 digs, 18 assists and 16 service aces. For the year, she averaged 1.76 kills and 1.37 digs per game. YSU won 22 matches while advancing to the Mid-Con Tournament Championship match.
She graduated from YSU with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. Hermann earned her teacher certificate in Health and Physical Education from Edinboro.
A native of Edinboro, Pa., she graduated from General McLane High School where she was a three-time all-county and all-district selection and was also a standout in track and field.
She currently is a Health/Physical Education teacher for pre-K to eighth grade at Erie Day School.
Amy Gallo, and her husband Jaimen, have a son Jackson and were expecting their second son in October.
