Anthony “Tony” Schiavone Memorial Golf Scholarship to Benefit Programs

The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the Anthony “Tony” Schiavone Memorial Golf Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.

This scholarship was established in 2021 by the family of Anthony Schiavone. A graduate of Ursuline High School, where he was a member of the golf team, Schiavone also attended Youngstown State University.

Tony, as he was affectionately known, worked in the family grocery business for more than 25 years before owning his own travel agency. Before retiring in 2011, Schiavone was an independent contractor, working as a title abstractor in the oil and gas industry.

An avid golfer, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was married to his loving wife, Carol, for 46 years. Carol and their children, Chris, Jackie and Sal are proud to endow this scholarship in his name. Schiavone loved cheering for the Penguins and gave generously to the athletic department at Youngstown State. He believed in helping others. This scholarship will embody his great spirit, his love of family and his love for the game of golf.

"Tony was a fixture at the local golf courses for more than 40 years,” Carol Schiavone said. “This scholarship combines his love of golf, his belief in the importance of higher education and his support of YSU."

The endowment will be given to a member of the men’s or women’s golf team at YSU. This scholarship will be alternated annually between these two sports. A preference will be given to a student-athlete from Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana county.

Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said Schiavone was passionate about so many things and was an outstanding person.

“We are very thankful to the Schiavone family for endowing an Athletics scholarship to honor their father,” McFadden said. “Anthony loved so much about life and we were always grateful for his generosity towards Youngstown State University. Our golf programs are honored to have a scholarship endowment in his name.”
