2009 Outdoor (Freshman): Tabbed the HorizonLeague Running Newcomer of the Year after his victory in the 5,000mwith a time of 14:36.82 and second-place finish in the 3,000msteeplechase with a time of 8:59.18 at the Outdoor Championships... the 5,000m time at the league meet broke the school record thatstood for nearly 19 years ... also set the school record in thesteeplechase with a first-place time of 8:49.25 at the CardinalTwilight ... the event time ranked 21st nationally and it was thefastest time by a freshman in the nation ... the time was also aLouisville track record ... qualified for the NCAA MideastRegionals by running a time of 9:05.86 at the Sea Ray Relays ...lowered his Regional qualifying time a week later at the PennRelays and was a member of the school-record setting 4x800m squadthat ran a time of 7:38.63 ... led after a mile in the 3,000msteeplechase but could not hang on and finished 15th (9:07.63) atthe Mideast Regionals ... added victories in the 5,000m (15:00.77)at the Sparky Adams Invite and the 1,500m (3:55.37) at theCampbell/Wright Open ... also set a Detroit Stadium record in thesteeplechase with a first-place time of 9:35.90 at the DetroitTitan Classic.
2009 Indoor (Freshman): Named Horizon LeagueRunning Newcomer of the Year following his performance at theleague meet ... set a Horizon League record in the 5,000m with atime of 14:24.21 to finish first at the meet ... also ran the milein 4:15.83 to finish fourth and took eighth in 3,000m with a timeof 8:29.76 at the HL Championships ... set school records in the3,000m and 5,000m during the campaign ... broke the 3,000m recordwith a time of 8:18.59 at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite ... hisfirst-place school-record time of 14:15.10 in the 5,000m came atthe Akron Open ... ranks third in school history in the mile with atime of 4:14.46 ... the time was good for second at the DougRaymond Invitational ... had first-place finishes in the mile(4:18.35) and 3,000m (8:26.71) at the KSU Triangular.
