Cincinnati, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team advanced to the Horizon League Championship semifinals for the fifth consecutive season with a 4-0 win over No. 6 seed Northern Kentucky in the quarterfinals at the Linder Family Tennis Center.
YSU will face the No. 2-seeded Milwaukee tomorrow at 3 p.m.Â
The Penguins shut out the Norse, securing the doubles point before earning straight-set victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
In doubles, Hanna Telzynska and Yoana Dudova earned a 6-2 decision at No. 1, while Lorena Cedeno and Sarah Partida Garcia followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Yeseniia Ovcharova put YSU on the board in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2, improving her career-best singles total to 18 victories.
Telzynska followed with her first postseason singles win for the Penguins, extending the lead to 3-0. She earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory to increase her single-season total to 19.
Line Greyling clinched the match at No. 5 singles with a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 win.
At No. 4, Partida Garcia won her first set 7-6. At No. 2, Cedeno was on the verge of victory, leading 6-3, 4-2 when the match was clinched.
With the victory, YSU improves to 11-11 on the season, while NKU finishes the year 3-11.
