The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Cleveland State on Friday night at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins fall to 15-5 and finished North Division play in the Horizon League with a 5-1 record. Cleveland State closes out the season with a 14-10 and 4-2 ledger.
YSU opened the night the strong performance in doubles. At No. 3, Maiha Haita and Oscar Gippet collected an impressive 6-1 win. After the Vikings won at No. 2 singles the decisive contest was at No. 1 doubles.
After trailing 4-1, Rafael Le Fur and Alexis Maulouet rallied to take a 7-6 (4) victory and earn the doubles point.
In singles, Malo Vernejoul earned a three-set victory at No. 5 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. The Vikings won in straight sets at No. 4 singles and picked up three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 6.
YSU retired early in the first sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
YSU will next be in action on April 25 when it plays a semifinal match in the Horizon League Championships in Mason, Ohio.
