The Youngstown State men's tennis team opens Horizon League play this weekend. YSU visits Northern Kentucky on Saturday and plays at IU Indy on Sunday.
Saturday's match against the Norse is set for 4 p.m. in Crestview Hills, Ky., at the Five Seasons Sports Club. Sunday's contest against IU Indy is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis.
The Penguins have posted a 9-3 mark so far this season. NKU is 2-6 entering a Friday contest against Cleveland State. IU Indy is 4-14 and faces the Vikings on Saturday prior to Sunday's matchup.
For the Guins, Oscar Gippet is 8-0 this spring while Rafael Le Fur is 6-2 and Malo Vernejoul is 5-3. As a team, YSU is 36-22 in singles contests and 19-13 in doubles play. YSU has won seven singles contests at No. 3 and No. 4 in the lineup.
Last spring, YSU swept the two matches against the Norse and split the two contests against the Jaguars. YSU's last win at IU Indy was on April 3, 2022. The Jaguars have won the previous three meetings in Indianapolis.
YSU plays its first three league matches away from Youngstown but will have five home contests in the month of April prior to the Horizon League Championships. The Guins will visit Cleveland State on Friday, March 27.
