The Youngstown State men's tennis team had an impressive effort in singles to beat St. Bonaventure by a 6-1 margin on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 4-1 overall with the win while the Bonnies fall to 0-5.
YSU regrouped after dropping two of three doubles contests at SBU won at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 3, Takamasa Mishiro and Alex Woiten picked up a 6-1 victory.
In singles, the Guins won four matches in straight sets, one by a retirement and one in a third-set super tiebreak.
At No. 1, Alexis Maulouet picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win. At No. 3, Malo Vernejeul won by a 6-4, 6-3 score. At No. 4, Oscar Gippet cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win and at No. 5, Woiten won 6-0, 6-1. At No. 6, Mishiro was winning 6-1, 3-0 when his opponent retired.
At No. 2, Dominik Vonbank rallied for 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 win to complete the singles sweep.
The Penguins are next in action on Friday at Toledo.
