Penguins Efficient In Seventh Straight Victory

The No. 73 Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over Niagara on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. The contest took just over an hour and 45 minutes.

The Penguins have won seven straight matches to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Purple Eagles drop to 0-6 on the year.

YSU won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 both by scores of 6-3. At No. 1, Dominink Vonbank and Matteo Cerardelli picked up the victory while at No. 3, Alex Woiten and Takamasa Mishiro were victorious.

YSU won in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles against the Purple Eagles. At No. 2, Ceradelli claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win. At No. 3, Rafael Le Fur won 6-3, 6-1. At No. 6, Mishiro earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

At the other two singles contests, Oscar Gippet led 6-4, 3-2 while Woiten was up 6-1, 4-3 when the contest was clinched.

The Purple Eagles picked up a point at No. 1 when Vonbank retired.

The Penguins head to South Carolina for three matches over Spring Break. YSU's first contest is at The Citadel on Tuesday.
