Akron, Ohio – Senior pole vaulter Ainsley Hamsher crushed the school record on Friday at the Akron Invitational at the Stile Field House.
Hamsher cleared a height of 4.30m to win the event and smash the previous school mark of 4.13m. Hamsher (Feb. 14, 2025) and Melana Schumaker (Feb. 16, 2024) had been the all-time school indoor school leaders in the event.
Her 4.30m mark currently ties her for 26th in the nation with UCLA's Paige Sommers.
On the night, she cleared 3.70m and 3.80m on her first attempts. Advancing to 4.00m she cleared on her second try. At 4.10m, she was over the bar on her first attempt. She set a then-school record of 4.20m by clearing on her third and final attempt. At 4.30m, she also cleared on her third and final try.
Scumaker had her best performance of the year, placing third with a mark of 4.00m. Placing fourth was Kaitlyn Eger at 3.80m.
For the men, Lukas Lang set a career-best mark for third consecutive meet. Lang finished second clearing a height of 5.17m. Jak Rovan cleared the bar at 4.92m.
The Penguins are back in action next weekend when they host the Horizon League Championships in the WATTS.
