
Two Place in Top 25 as Penguins Finish Eighth at Tom Tontimonia Invitational

Westlake, Ohio – The Youngstown State men's golf team had a pair of top 25 individual performers as the Penguins placed eighth as a team at Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Lakewood Country Club.
Fifth-year senior Ryan Sam finished tied for 17th to pace the Penguins individually and finish in the top 25 for the third straight tournament to begin the 2026-27 season. The Canfield, Ohio, native posted a three-round score of 218 (76-67-75), and he matched his season and career low round with a four-under-par 67 in Monday's second session. Sam's stellar second round featured 11 pars, four birdies and an eagle on the par-four No. 8.
Junior Bryar Moss finished tied for 22nd with a three-round total of 219 (73-72-74) in his first appearance in YSU's team lineup. The Parker, Colo., native recorded 12 pars and three birdies during his one-over-par 72 in the second round.
As a team, Youngstown State placed eighth with a three-round total of 884. The Penguins opened the tournament with a team scores of 298 and 288, respectively, over the first two rounds on Monday before closing the event with a 298 in the final round on Tuesday.
Freshman Nathan Miller finished tied for 33rd with a three-round score of 221 (71-76-74) in his third collegiate tournament while playing as an individual. The Canfield, Ohio, native's even-par 71 in the opening round on Monday included 12 pars and three birdies as he fired a one-under-par 35 on the back nine.
In his season debut, Nolan Shilling turned in a three-round total of 224 (73-77-74). Shilling's first-round 73 featured 10 pars and three birdies as he carded a one-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Michael Porter concluded the event with a three-round score of 225 (77-72-76). Porter's season-low 72 in the second round included 13 pars and a pair of birdies on the back nine.
Playing as an individual, freshman Jack Sacriponte also finished with a three-round 225 (71-74-80). Sacriponte's career-low, even-par round of 71 on Monday featured 10 pars and four birdies as he posted a one-under-par 35 on the back nine.
Rocco Turner finished the tournament with a three-round total of 232 (76-81-75). The junior carded three birdies during the final round of action on Tuesday.
Dayton claimed the tournament title at one over par as a team with a three-round total of 853 while Green Bay and Purdue Fort Wayne each recorded an 859 to finish tied for second place. Oakland placed fourth with an 868 while Marshall rounded out the top five with an 875.
Dayton's Luke Kahle earned individual medalist honors by one shot at five under par with a three-round score of 208 (70-72-66).
Youngstown State will continue the fall portion of its 2026-27 season on Oct. 11-13 with the Bucknell Invitational at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
