Penguins Host Bryant & Stratton in School Day Kids Game Friday Morning

Setting the Scene
The Youngstown State men's basketball team (8-9, 2-5 Horizon League) closes out its short two-game homestand hosting Bryant & Stratton on Friday, Jan. 9 in kids school field trip day at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be aired on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.

Youngstown State returns to Horizon League action when it visits in-state foe Wright State, Thursday, Jan. 17. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, and the game will be aired on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne's Corey Hadnot II made two free throws with 21.7 seconds left to lift the Mastodons to a 71-69 victory over Youngstown State's men's basketball team in a back-and-forth Horizon League contest on Jan. 7. Cris Carroll scored 14 points to lead four Penguins in double figures, and he added eight rebounds. His 3-pointer on YSU's final possession was off the mark. Jaiden Haynes scored 12 points, Cam Polak scored 11 and Zorgvol contributed 10. Haynes had 10 points in the first half, and Polak's 11 all came in the first 20 minutes.

About Bryant & Stratton
Bryant & Stratton is 10-7 overall and is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. This game will be an exhibition for the Bobcats. Detric Hearst leads the Bobcats with 16.2 points per game while Greg Thurman is averaging 13.6 points per contest.

The Bryant & Stratton Series
This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Bryant & Stratton. This is also the first time the Bobcats will play an NCAA Division I opponent.

Osborne Named Top 100 Impactful Assistants
Associate Head Coach Dwaine Osborne was named to the 7th Annual Silver Wave Media Top 100 Impactful Mid-Major Assistants List. Osborne, who is in his second season with the Penguins, has helped Youngstown State to 29 victories since his arrival.

King reaches 300 assists
With four assists against Northern Kentucky on Jan. 4, junior Drew King recorded the 300th assist of his collegiate career and he now has 302. King leads the Penguins with 59 assists and 3.5 assists per game. He also ranks eighth in the league in total assists and assists per game.

Haynes, Polak Provide Scoring Punch
Freshman Jaiden Haynes and sixth-year senior Cam Polak provided an offensive scoring spark off the bench against Purdue Fort Wayne. Haynes and Polak scored 23 of the Penguins 33 bench points against the Mastodons. Haynes poured in 12 points while Polak added 11, including three 3-pointers.

Carroll hits career-high 7 3s; League Leader
Senior Cris Carroll has been deadly from distance all season long. He posted a career-best seven 3-pointers against Northern Kentucky on Jan. 4. The last player to make at least seven 3s in a game was Brandon Rush who made 10 on Nov. 13, 2023. Carroll leads the Horizon League with 53 made 3s, 3.2 3-pointers made per game and a .450 3-point percentage. He also ranks third in scoring with 17.2 points per game.

Zorgvol Leads League
Senior Imanuel Zorgvol has been a tremendous rim protector this season. Zorgvol leads the Horizon League with 28 total blocks and 1.6 blocks per game. He has recorded at least one block in 14 of 17 games and multiple blocks 10 times. Zorgvol posted four blocks against Grand Canyon (Nov. 7) and USC Upstate (Dec. 20).
