Youngstown, Ohio – Milwaukee's Stevie Elam intercepted a pass and made a driving layup with 7.7 seconds to go to lift the Panthers to a 65-64 win over the Youngstown State men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center.

Senior Cris Carroll scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Penguins, who fall to 10-12 overall and 3-8 in Horizon League play, and junior Rich Rolf scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half and posted nine rebounds.

Carroll made two free throws with 39 seconds left and put the Penguins up 64-61 before Milwaukee's Isaiah Dorceus' fast-break layup got the Panthers within one, 64-63, with 32 second to go.

Youngstown State trailed by six, 54-48, with just under six minutes remaining when Rolf led a 6-0 spurt to knot the game at 54-54 with 4:26 remaining. After a basket by Milwaukee's Aaron Franklin gave the Panthers a two-point edge, Carroll's three-point play at the 2:55 mark put Youngstown State up one and Jaiden Haynes' two free throws pushed the Penguins advantage to 59-56 with just over two minutes to play.

A three-point play by senior Jason Nelson extended the Penguins lead to four points, 62-58, at the 1:18 mark.

In the first half, the Penguins made eight of their first 16 shots, including five first-half 3-pointers in the first 14 minutes of the contest and led by as many as 11, 29-18, with 4:24 remaining before the intermission.

Milwaukee, however, went on a 14-1 run to close out the half to take a 32-30 advantage into the lockerroom while the Penguins missed eight of their last nine first-half field-goal attempts.
