The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4-3 decision to Eastern Michigan in their home dual opener on Friday.
YSU (0-2) collected a pair three singles wins as Hanna Telzynska won in straight sets at No. 1 while Lorena Cedeno (No. 3) and Line Greyling (No. 5) battled to three-set triumphs. EMU improves to 4-0 on the season.
Trailing 2-0, the Penguins picked up their first point of the contest at No. 1 singles as Telzysnka. In her home dual debut, Telzysnka won her match by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Eastern Michigan won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. While the three other matches all went three sets.
At No. 5, Greyling won a grueling 5-7, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2) contest that lasted more than three hours. In the second set, Greyling fought off a pair of match points to force a tiebreaker.
At No. 3, Cedeno won her first set 6-1, before dropping the second 6-1 and claimed the win with a 6-4 rally in the third set.
At No. 4, Yoana Dudova won her first set 6-4 before dropping the next two 6-1, 7-5. In the third Dudova fell behind early, before battling back to tie the set at 5-all.
The Eagles won the doubles point with No. 1 and No. 3. At No. 2, Yoana Dudova and Telzynska were leading 4-3 when the point was clinched.
The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they play host to Indiana (Pa.). First serve against the Crimson Hawks is set for 2 p.m.
