The Youngstown State women's tennis team opens the 2026 dual season with a contest at West Virginia on Saturday afternoon. First serve against the Mountaineers is set for 3 pm at the Summit Tennis Academy.

Last year, the Penguins posted a 14-8 overall record and reached the NCAA Championships for the eighth time in program history. West Virginia registered an 8-17 overall record in 2025 with six wins coming at home. WVU plays host to Morgan State at 10 am on Saturday before entertaining the Guins.

YSU returns six players from last season's squad. Returning for the Guins are Yeseniia Ovcharova, Lorena Cedeno, Yoana Dudova, Lydia Foster, Sarah Partida Garcia and Line Greyling. Newcomers to the dual lineup will be Hanna Telzynska and Diane Piranda.

In the fall, Telzynska won the singles titles that the Viking Invitational in October while Greyling and Ovcharova won the doubles title at the Horizon League Individual Championships in Youngstown. YSU was last in action in November in California.

The Guins and Mountaineers last played in February 2022 at Morgantown. This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the programs since the first contest back in 2007.

Following Saturday's matchup, the Guins are at home for two contests hosting Eastern Michigan and Bucknell next Friday and Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
