The Youngstown State women's tennis team will play host to three-day Horizon League Individual Championships at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center starting on Friday.
Matches will begin at 9 a.m. each day starting with singles contests. Doubles tilts will be held later in the afternoon. Friday and Saturday will include two rounds of singles and one round of doubles, while Sunday's action will feature the singles final along with the doubles semifinals and final. Various consolation matches will be contested, time and court availability permitting.
Schools competing in the event alongside YSU are Cleveland State, Milwaukee, Oakland and IU Indy. The event will feature a 32-player Singles Draw and a 16-Team Doubles Draw, with the winner from both brackets earning an entry into the ITA Conference Masters Championship, which will be hosted Nov. 6-9 in San Diego, Calif.
Last year's singles winner was Julia Marko (YSU) while Cleveland State's Sima Heren and Oihane Vicario won the doubles championship.Â
Seven Penguins will be in action in singles play while six will be part of the doubles competition. YSU opened the season last weekend at the Block E Invitational with Yeseniia Ovcharova leading the way with a pair of victories.
