Strong Day Two Propels Women at HL Outdoor Championships

The Youngstown State women's track and field team surged to a 45.5-point lead on a strong second day of competition at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
The Penguins scored 68.5 points on the second day with impressive performances in the shot put, long jump, pole vault and steeplechase.
In the pole vault, Ainsley Hamsher won her first outdoor title clearing a meet record 4.06m. Finishing second was Melana Schumaker (3.86m) and Kaitlyn Eger (3.76m) was third giving the Guins the top three spots on the podium.
In the steeplechase, YSU had the second and third-place runners. Finishing in second was Jenna Razavi with a time of 10:48.57 while Kenzy Beckett raced to a third-place finish with a time of 10:49.43.
In the shot put, the Penguins had fourth, fifth and seventh-place efforts. Molly Radcliffe was fourth with a throw of 13.34m, Olivia Mason was fifth at 13.08m and Lauren Sheehan placed seventh.
In the long jump, Daisha Decree was third with a leap of 5.72m, Micah Carey came in sixth and Nia Williams-Matthews was seventh.
Starting off the day strong was Emily Bee who placed second in the heptathlon with a school-record 5,205 points. She finished just 21 seconds out of first in a hard-fought back-and-forth competition.
The Guins advanced an impressive group of Penguins to the running event finals.
In the 100m, Mariah Day (11.72 seconds) and Madison Murry (11.94 seconds) advanced to the finals. In the 200m, Melody Harloff (24.45 seconds) and Day (24.52 seconds) will run in the finals. Harloff will be YSU's lone representative in the 400m after running the second-fastest qualifying time of 55.78 seconds.
In the 100m hurdles, the Guins advanced three athletes as Bee ran a time of 13.85 seconds, Murry clocked a time of 13.87 seconds and Lea Parham posted a time of 14.01 seconds.
The final day gets underway at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw, high jump while the triple jump and running events begin at noon.
