Prajunpanich Cruises to Individual Title as Penguins Place Second at HL Championships

Sophomore Neeranuch Prajunpanich earned individual medalist honors by seven shots to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to a runner-up finish at the 2025 Horizon League Championship, which concluded on Monday at Mission Resort + Club's El Campeon Course in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
Prajunpanich, who finished as the individual runner-up at the league meet as a freshman last season, left no doubt in 2025 as she capped her stellar sophomore season with a dominating seven-shot victory. The Samut Prakan, Thailand, native finishes the 2024-25 season with five first-place finishes to match the school record for wins in a campaign. She joins Jessica Lundblad (1997-98) as the only two players in program history to win five events in a season. Prajunpanich becomes YSU's first individual league champion since Katlyn Shutt claimed medalist honors at the 2021 league tournament.
After a first-round 78 on Saturday, Prajunpanich responded with a two-under-par 71 in the second round on Sunday to seize a three-shot lead on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore closed the tournament with an even-par 73 in the final round on Monday to finish with a three-round 222 and pull away for the convincing win. Prajunpanich's final-round 73 featured 14 pars and a pair of birdies as she fired a one-under-par 35 on the front nine.
Senior Lizzie Saur and junior Maddi Shoults each concluded the league meet with a three-round 237 to finish tied for seventh. Saur carded a three-over-par 76 in the final round after opening her final league tournament with rounds of 81 and 80. The senior's final round included 13 pars and a birdie at the par-four No. 13. Shoults closed out play with a 77 after rounds of 83 and 77 over the first two rounds, respectively. The junior's final session featured birdies at No. 6, No. 10 and No. 14.
Sofia Perez Escarcena finished tied for 11th in her debut appearance at the HL Championships with a three-round 239 (76-85-78). The freshman's final-round 78 included 11 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 14.
Valentina Peña Anaya placed 18th in her first appearance at the league meet, recording a three-round 243 (78-84-81).
Oakland, which began Monday's final round in third place behind Purdue Fort Wayne and YSU, posted a final-round team score of 299 to surge to the top of the leaderboard and earn the team title for the second straight season with a three-round team total of 927. The Penguins, who finished two shots back of the Golden Grizzlies with a 929, also finished as the runner-up for the second straight campaign.
Purdue Fort Wayne placed third in the team standings with a 941, Green Bay finished fourth with a 962 and Northern Kentucky rounded out the top five with a 978.
