The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will be back in action this Saturday after a 26-day competition hiatus when they face Cleveland State in a dual this Saturday at 11 a.m.
Last Time Out
The Penguins last competed at the Akron Zips Classic, which took place Oct. 10-11.
The Penguin men won seven events, highlighted by three meet records.
- The 400-free relay squad of Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Lorenz Beck, and Noah Smith placed first with a meet-record time of 2:58.60, while the 200-medley relay team of Cynor, James Slessor, Gramer, and Smith also won with a meet-record, clocking in at 1:28.59.
- Quinn Cynor also won two backstroke events, placing first in the 100 backstroke with a meet-record time of 48.46, as well as winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.58.
Hanna Held captured the lone win for the YSU women, claiming first place in the one-meter dive with a score of 242.20.
Although the Penguin women only won one event, they did have three runner-up finishes, including Olivia Sweetman in the 500 free (4:57.22), Hannah Murray in the 200 IM (2:04.31), and Orla Maccines in the 200 butterfly (2:03.13).
Penguins Sweep #HLSD Swimmers of the Week
For the second-straight week following the Penguins' competition, YSU had two recipients receive Horizon League weekly honors.
Quinn Cynor earned his second Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week honor of the season after being part of six event victories and helping set three meet records in Akron.
Olivia Sweetman was named the Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week for her efforts at the Akron Zips Classic, marking the first time she received the honor during her collegiate career. Sweetman placed inside the top five in four events, including a runner-up finish in the 500 free (4:57.22) and third-place finish in the 1650 free (17:01.12).
Scouting the Vikings
Both the men's and women's programs for Cleveland State have gotten off to strong starts this season, each carrying 3-1 dual records.
The CSU men defeated St. Bonaventure 200-100 in their last dual on Oct. 24-25 at Busbey Natatorium, while the Vikings women defeated the Bonnies 157-143.
This will be the second meet this season that features both YSU and Cleveland State, as each school competed at the Akron Zips Classic on Oct. 10-11.

The Penguins will return home for their highly anticipated YSU Invite on Nov. 20-22 inside Beeghly Natatorium. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. each day, with Finals beginning at 5 p.m. on the first two days, and 4 p.m. on the final day of competition.
