Youngstown State women's track and field athletes Nia Williams-Matthews (field) and Mariah Day (runner) were named the Under Armour #HLTF Athletes of the Week following strong performances at Clemson's Purple and Orange Invitational this past weekend.
Williams-Matthews extended her school record in the triple jump to finish an impressive fourth in the event at the Clemson Purple and Orange Invitational.
She finished with a mark of 12.49m which came on her final attempt. She held the mark of 12.41m before teammate Esther Solarin jumped 12.46m on her fourth attempt. Williams-Matthews added a leap of 5.48m to finish 13th in the long jump.
Day finished 13th in the 60m hurdles at the Clemson Purple and Orange Invitational. In the semifinals she had a time of 8.60 seconds after clocking a personal-best time of 8.46 seconds in the prelims. That time ranks second fastest in the Horizon League behind teammate Madison Murry.
The Penguins are at home on Friday and Saturday when they play host to the YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health.
