Kish Paces Penguins at Virtues Intercollegiate as YSU Continues Busy Stretch

Freshman Jordan Kish paced the Youngstown State men's golf team at the two-day Virtues Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green and Miami, which concluded on Sunday from the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
The tournament, which was originally scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather and travel restrictions. The teams completed the second and final round on Sunday morning following heavy rain throughout play on Saturday. The Penguins posted a two-round total of 610 to finish 14th overall as a team. YSU recorded an opening-round 308 before putting together a 302 in the second and final session.
Kish, who was playing in his third collegiate tournament, finished tied for 51st with a two-round score of 150 (76-74) to come in as YSU's top individual finisher for the second consecutive tournament. The freshman's two-over-par 74 in the second round featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies.
Nolan Shilling finished tied for 70th with a two-round 154 (76-78). The redshirt freshman's first-round 76 included 10 pars and two birdies. Jake Ryan finished tied for 72nd with a two-round total of 155 (77-78).
Ryan Sam also concluded the tournament with a two-round score of 155 (83-72). The junior's even-par 72 in the second session featured nine pars and five birdies as he fired a one-under-par 35 on the front nine. Jacob Sylak finished with a two-round 159 (79-80) in his first event of the 2024-25 season.
Michigan claimed the tournament title by three strokes at 17 under par with a two-round total of 559. James Madison finished as the runner-up with a 562, Eastern Michigan placed third with a 575 and Wright State and Marshall tied for fourth as each posted a 579. Michigan's Yuqi Liu earned medalist honors by one stroke with a two-round score of 137 (69-68).
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule tomorrow with the first round of Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley, Ohio, as it continues a busy stretch of two tournaments in four days. The Penguins are scheduled to play 18 holes tomorrow and 36 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event.
Tomorrow's opening round will begin with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Live scoring will be available via ScoreboardLive through links posted on YSUsports.com and the program's social media accounts.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Sylak, Sam, Ryan, Shilling and Kish. In addition, Michael Porter, Ayden Richmond and Josh Weiner will be competing as individuals for the Penguins. Of note, Weiner will be making his collegiate debut as a redshirt freshman in tomorrow's first round.
