Seven Penguins Named WGCA All-American Scholars

Coral Springs, Fla. – Seven Youngstown State women's golf student-athletes were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars for their impressive work in the classroom during the 2023-24 campaign, the organization announced on Monday.
The Penguins who were named WGCA All-American Scholars are fifth-year senior Danae Rugola, seniors Titita Loudtragulngam and Madie Smithco, junior Lizzie Saur, sophomores Chaela Barnett and Adena Rugola and freshman Neeranuch Prajunpanich.
Danae Rugola received the honor for the fifth consecutive season while Smithco and Saur were each recognized for the third straight campaign. Loudtragulngam earned the award for the second consecutive season while Barnett, Prajunpanich and Adena Rugola were each honored for the first time in their career. The program has now had at least two golfers earn the honor in 11 straight seasons.
Youngstown State's women's golf program also earned the Horizon League Raise Your Sights award at the conference level with a 3.87 team GPA for the 2023-24 academic year. The Raise Your Sights awards are given annually to the best sport teams academically and is based on combined grade point average (GPA) from the current academic year. The award also recognizes the top academic male and female team from each Horizon League institution.
The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. Overall, a total of 1,497 women's collegiate golfers from 412 programs were recognized with this prestigious honor.
