Highlights From the 2024 Horizon League Outdoor Championships

The Youngstown State men's track and field team earned the title while the women were runners up at the Horizon League Outdoor Champions which concluded on Sunday at the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Complex in Rochester, Mich.
League Honors
- Men's Champions – Hunter Christopher (10,000m), Ryan Henry (shot put and hammer throw), Dorian Chaigneau (pole vault), Luke Laubacher (110m hurdles), Mason Stephens (high jump), Harry Barton (400m hurdles), Jakari Lomax (triple jump).
- Men's Runner-Up Finishes – Ryan Meadows (5,000m and 10,000m), Christian Ford (100m), Luke Laubacher (200m), Harry Barton (400m), Lonnie Harper (high jump), Blake Sifferlin (pole vault), Jakari Lomax (high jump), Coleson Kertesz (discus), Dominic Perry (shot put) and the 4x100m relay.
- Women's Champions – Molly Radcliffe (discus), Esther Solarin (long jump and triple jump), Melana Schumaker (pole vault), Nia Grose (100m)
- Women's Runner-Up Finishes – Melody Harloff (400m), Morgan Cole (1,500m), Erin Bogard (pole vault), Lexus Solarz (discus) and Krista Perry (hammer throw).

Men's Horizon League Championship Notes
- The men's team raced to their fifth straight league title and eighth overall, scoring the second-highest point total in program history with 294 points and winning by an impressive 102-point margin.
- Won eight event titles (pole vault, shot put, 110m hurdles, high jump, 400m hurdles, hammer throw, triple jump and 10,000m) and had 11 runner-up performances.
- The Penguins scored 31 points on day one, 85 on day two and a whopping 178 on the final day.
- The Guins scored 44 in the hurdles and 36 in the 100m, 200m and 400m. The Guins picked up 31 in the pole vault and 28 in the high jump.
- YSU scored at least 200 points for the seventh straight event.
- Jakari Lomax won his fourth straight triple jump championship - a first-ever at the HL meet. Laubacher won his third consecutive 110m hurdles crown and Harry Barton won his second straight 400m hurdles title.
- YSU has won seven straight 110m hurdle titles.
- YSU has won seven straight pole vault titles.
- Barton set the school record in the 400m running an impressive 46.95 seconds. The previous record had stood since 2008.
- Laubacher (110m hurdles) and Lomax (triple jump) set new championship records.
- Brian Gorby was named the Coach of the Year for the seventh time in his career.
Women's Horizon League Championship Notes
- The women finished second for the fifth time in school history and have finished first or second in every outdoor meet held since 2004.
- The Guins scored 130 points in the meet.
- YSU won five event titles (100m, discus, pole vault, triple jump and long jump).
- Posted runner-up finishes in the pole vault, 400m, 1,500m, discus and hammer throw.
- YSU scored 33 points in the pole vault, 18 in the discus and 14 in the long jump.
- Esther Solarin was the first jumper to win the long and triple jumps at the same meet since YSU's Chontel Fils in 2019.
- First-time winners were Solarin, Grose and Schumaker.
- YSU has won 13 straight Horizon League 100m races dating back to 2011
- The Guins have won four straight pole vault titles.
