Penguins Sign NJCAA All-American Brandon Hutchinson

The Youngstown State men's track and field program has added NJCAA All-American Brandon Hutchinson, Head Coach Brian Gorby announced on Wednesday.
A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Hutchinson has been part of the Cloudy County CC program the past two years. He picked YSU over SEC powers Arkansas and Alabama among others.
Hutchinson recently placed fourth in the decathlon at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He scored an impressive 6,553 points highlighted by strong efforts in the long jump (7.22m) and the 110m hurdles (14.74 seconds). He finished in the top three in six of the 10 events.
Prior to the Division I meet, he was third at the Region VI Championships in the decathlon with 6,399 points. Besides his decathlon events, he also competed in the 110m hurdles, pole vault, long jump and javelin.
Earlier in the outdoor season he had a fifth-place performance at the Wichita State Combined Events with a total of 6,025 points.
At the 2024 NJCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship he finished sixth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,766 points. At the Region VI meet he was second in the heptathlon with 4,503 points.
At the 2023 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships he was 10th in the javelin with a throw of 46.72m. At the Region VI Championships he was sixth in the decathlon with 5,046 points.
