
Penguins To Send 11 Athletes to the NCAA Prelims In Kentucky

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams will send 11 athletes to the NCAA East Prelims beginning on May 22 in Lexington, Ky. The events will take place at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility.
Athletes qualifying for YSU are Luke Laubacher (110m hurdles), Harry Barton (400m Hurdles), Jakari Lomax (triple jump and long jump), Dorian Chaigneau (pole vault), Blake Sifferlin (pole vault), Dominic Perry (shot put), Ryan Henry (shot put), Melana Schumaker (pole vault), Erin Bogard (pole vault), Esther Solarin (triple jump) and Molly Radcliffe (discus).
It marks the third straight year that the Guins have sent at least 11 athletes to the NCAA Preliminary meet. YSU sent a record 13 competitors in 2022 and had 12 advance last year.
Bogard and Chaigneau both return after qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships last year. At the East Prelims, Chaigneau was fourth in the men's pole vault while Bogard was 11th in the women's pole vault.
Overall, Bogard will be appearing in the regionals for the fourth time while Lomax and Perry have been to three meets. Barton advanced to the quarterfinals in the 400m hurdles last year while Radcliffe competed in the shot put in 2022.
Making their NCAA debuts are Henry, Laubacher, Sifferlin, Solarin and Schumaker.
The men's events are Wednesday and Friday while the women will compete on Thursday and Saturday.
The top 12 athletes in each event advance to the NCAA Championships which are set for June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
