Youngstown, Ohio -- Dacia Lewandowski has signed to join the Youngstown State women's basketball team as a transfer from the University of Akron, YSU head coach Melissa Jackson announced on Tuesday.
This is the second time that Lewandowski has pledged to play on a Jackson-coached team. Her original commitment to Akron came when Jackson was the head coach for the Zips. A 5-foot-11 combo guard, Lewandowski redshirted in 2023-24 and has four years of eligibility remaining.
"I am so excited that Dacia has decided to join our Penguin Family," Jackson said. "I have wanted to coach her for a long time, and the fact that I get to do that now is very, very special.
"Dacia loves the game! She will bring a high IQ and a vocal presence to our team. Dacia has great size and length at the combo guard position. She will be great in our defensive concepts, and her ability to score at all three levels will be a great asset.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Lewandowski was a three-year letterwinner at North Catholic High School where she owned career averages of 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest. She garnered first-team all-state accolades as a junior en route to being named by KDKA as the 3A Player of the Year. Additionally, Lewandowski was named the Most Valuable Player of the WPIAL Championship game in 2022. Off the court, she maintained a 4.57 grade point average.
Lewandowski is the second student-athlete to choose Youngstown State out of the transfer portal. She joins forward Faith Burch, who was announced as a new Penguin on Monday.
